Design Clinicals Announces MedsTracker 2.0 Release

New Functionality Will Further Enhance Medication Reconciliation Process

Seattle, WA - February 22, 2008

Design Clinicals, Inc., a provider of advanced medication reconciliation and patient safety systems, announced today the release of version 2.0 of their MedsTracker software. MedsTracker enables hospitals to quickly become compliant with The Joint Commission's (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals for medication reconciliation. The application is web-based and can be used in a standalone environment or integrated with other clinical systems.

MedsTracker 2.0 further enhances the medication reconciliation process which has been identified by TJC as a key component to patient safety and well-being. The application was designed by practicing physicians and hospital interface specialists who understand the complex provider workflow of inpatient admission, transfer and discharge and the challenges of seamless integration with hospital data systems, enterprise-wide.

In addition to handling the complex medication reconciliations that occur during a patient's care continuum, the new MedsTracker Version 2.0 will provide faster discharge reconciliation and other enhancements including,

  • Combined home and inpatient lists grouped together, eliminating the need to combine and/or reconcile multiple medication lists
  • Displays brand and generic drug names together
  • Supports allergy integration
  • Interfaces with Pyxis Connect for physician orders
  • Facilitates quick entry of the last dose taken in the med history and entry of the next dose due on discharge
  • Can query data from other clinical systems
  • Weight-based calculations and medication strengths
  • Drug monographs
  • Advanced safety checking
  • Proactive cues alert users before taking actions, such as highlighting incomplete medications and safety checking
  • Enhanced reporting capabilities
  • Active directory integration for improved user login experience

"Our approach to software design has always been to keep our thumb on the pulse of pain points for clinicians, and to solve those specific points with technology that makes sense. These new enhancements provide further solutions to the problems clinicians face during the complex medication reconciliation process," commented Dewey Howell, MD, PhD, CEO of Design Clinicals.
