Design Clinicals, Inc., a provider of advanced medication reconciliation and patient safety systems, announced today their MedsTracker software enables hospitals to comply with new Federal government mandates regarding prescriptions for Medicaid patients and new state recommendations on patient safety.
MedsTracker helps hospitals comply with the law that Congress passed in July of 2007. This law requires that prescriptions for Medicaid patients be either submitted electronically or written/printed on tamper-resistant paper. Written prescriptions that are not printed on this type of paper will not be reimbursed. This requirement is expected to help prevent filling of fraudulent prescriptions and came into effect on April 1, 2008.
Design Clinicals' medication reconciliation tool, MedsTracker, supports this tamper proof prescription mandate by either faxing prescriptions to pharmacies (fulfilling the requirement for submitting them electronically) or by enabling special routing of the prescriptions to printers that contain tamper-resistant paper. This new feature helps meet regulatory compliance and also enhances clinicians' workflow without impeding their daily work routines. The application is web-based and can be used in a standalone environment or integrated with other clinical systems.
In addition, the Washington State Department of Health recently made recommendations to clinicians on how to avoid medication errors. All of these state level recommendations can be achieved by using MedsTracker for prescription writing and drug orders, including:
"We continually monitor Federal and state mandates to ensure our clients remain compliant with ever-changing governmental regulations. We also solve these compliance issues in a manner that does not interfere with our clients' workflow," commented Dewey Howell, MD, PhD, CEO of Design Clinicals.
